yikes! I AM that older woman....

I have always like this idea of having a blog. an outlet to tell all as i see it, and share whats going on with me. Kinda like a digital journal. But one problem. I didnt think i had anything fascinating to share. Yes I have funny kids stories...i am a mom to three boys. Crazy, energetic, daring boys. But EVERYONE has those kinda stories. I have some talents, nothing that makes your jaw drop, just because its fascinating to me...probably isnt to others. Yesterday I dug alittle deeper, and came up with what I would share...it all started acouple weeks ago.

Our church family we belong to offers a college class on wednesday evenings. Its a mentoring class where the guys go with the Men, and the gals are in a class with "older women"...not college aged. I chose not to go upstairs in the class. Not because of not knowing anyone, because ALL my friends are up there. No simply because of intimidation. I have never taught a class older than Kindergarten. And to go into that college class, you were encouraged to sign up and teach. So I have been perfectly content downstairs in the other adult class.

But ditching this class, made me think. Do I have nothing to share? nothing to offer? I know how to read and study my Bible. I have been their age once, and have life lessons for sharing....but somehow i justified my reasonings for not attending. As I was flipping thru my Bible yesterday, I came across the verse in Titus 2:4..."Older women train and teach the younger women to love their husbands and children, to have self-controll and be pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and subject to their husbands." Ok so newsflash. I AM that older woman. LOL. Why is it when we read this verse we think of grey haired, "seasoned" women?? I am older than college age, I have been married for 16 years....I CAN be an example to these younger gals. (Despite the fact I have no grey hair. )So. This is my challenge I have given myself. To take this verse and apply it. No I dont have to teach up in front, but I can befriend them in a more comfortable setting. I am planning to rotate thru the college girls and get to know them. Let them know I am their friend, and not simply ignoring them because i am not attending their class. On a plus note, My husband offering support in this area, suggested we take turns inviting the newly married "twenty somethings" into our home and getting to know them better.

If youve read thru this far, Fabulous, and I pray you evaluate your own life and choices youve made....or havent made yet....and find ways to be that Example. Start poking your own comfort zones to be a better Christian......a better person! Someone you can truly be proud of!

Thanks for reading, and HAVE AN AWESOME WEEK!!!

  1. I remember being in that place, realizing I AM an older woman to someone. You DO have something to share, everyone does. Finding that niche can be a blessing not only to those you share with, but to yourself in the new relationships you build! Love that you are journaling your thoughts. That inspires me! <3

  2. Five days after first reading this, I'm back reading it again. Your words are challenging me, which is good. I encourage you not to sell yourself short- you have more to offer than you know and are wise in ways that you probably don't see. Don't try to be a mentor or teacher by comparing yourself to someone else or trying to match what you think you should be- you need to just be the best YOU you can be. Be the inspiration and a blessing that you already are to those who know you.
